1. Broaden your horizons. Step 1. Using the Internet or the collective experiences of your group, find a praise and worship song related to love that you have never heard before. Try to find a song that comes from a culture or Christian tradition other than your own. Step 2. Analyze the lyrics in the way Jenell Williams Paris analyzed songs in her chapter: what is the role of God? What is the role of humans? What difference does love make? Step 3. Discuss the following question: How could it benefit your church or community to incorporate worship songs from the broader Christian community? 2. Critical thinking about love. Step 1. Choose a recent romantic movie that many in your group have seen. Step 2. Critically analyze ‘movie love’, using this movie and others. Is this kind of love true to your experience? Does it guide your expectations for your own romantic relationships? Step 3. Critically analyze your expectations for your relationship with God. Are there any ways in which ‘movie love’ shapes what you expect in your relationship with God? In what ways is this good, and in what ways might it be harmful?
